Full Bore Shooting

Higher calibres at long distance

What Is Full Bore?

Full size,  full power rifles for long distance work.

We regularly shoot these at outdoor ranges particularly the army range at Strensall, York, Beckingham at Newark and at the national shooting centre, Bisley, Surrey.

Old historic guns which pre-date World War One, through World War Two and right up to date with the latest modern sniper rifles, if it shoots a rifle bullet, you can shoot it with our club. Ex-military rifles such as Lee Enfield, Mosin Nagant and even AKM’s are popular.

The highest calibre rifle you could possible own would be a .50 calibre but since there are only a couple of places you can shoot those in the UK – and the ammo is £15 a shot – ownership of those is rare.  Instead most members opt for the more common .223, .303, 7.62×39, 7.62x54R or .308 rifles where the ammo ranges from 30p each to a pound a round.

Which one to get depends on how far you want to shoot, the larger calibres being more suited to longer distances whereas the little .223 runs out of steam after 700 yards or so.  Don’t worry about that yet, you’ll cover that during training and will have a chance to try small and large calibres.

The club has multiple rifles for members to use in .223, .308, 7.62 calibres.

Hitting a six foot wide target at 600 yards is easy. Landing shots into a three inch wide bullseye, not so easy.

Club Full Bore Guns

Savage Axis .223

The Savage Axis .223 Remington Bolt-Action Rifle is a centrefire rifle with easy bolt action and features a detachable box magazine with a 4-round capacity.

The rifle is designed with a carbon-steel barrel and a synthetic stock with matte finishes.

Savage Axis .308

The same rifle as the Savage Axis .223 but chambered in .308 Remington.

In .308 this is capable of 1000 yards. Coupled with good telescopic sights we will teach you about bullet drops and hold over.

Mosin Nagant

A 1944 dated five shot, bolt-action, internal magazine–fed, military rifle.

This rifle chambered in 7.62 x 54R is fitted with a scope to help aiming. A classic rifle and surprisingly accurate.

AR-15 Straight Pull

Classic AR-15 in .223 calibre, good for up to 700 yards.

Easy to shoot for newcomers and reasonably accurate, even with the shorter barrel. The .223 calibre has little recoil compared to the larger .308 and is a good introduction to rifle shooting.

AK47

The classic AK47 fitted with an original Russian POSP 6-24 scope.

The 7.62×39 calibre is soft to shoot and reasonably accurate – very popular with members.
