We do like our long distance rifle challenges

New range and a new challenge – the Gardners Guns range near Hawick, not far from Lockerbie.

Our first ever trip to the range managed by Gardeners Guns about 13 miles to the south west of Hawick, near Lockerbie.

Excellent day was had despite 33degC temperatures, very unusual for being half way up a mountain in Scotland. Good job Baz brought a gazebo or we’d have all melted – cheers pal!
This is a private range (not MoD) so high power rifles can be used. Multiple steel targets are presented from 200m all the way to 1100m with a small 18 inch and large 75 inch target at the mile.
Below image shows the 200, 300 and 400m target arrays.
General view of the range which is in a natural bowl.
Getting ready for the 1 mile shot
On the picture below you can almost see the larger of the mile targets, the smaller one is invisible at this distance – good scopes are required.
The larger target which on the picture is just a small white square – that’s 74 inches across.
All sorts of rifles and calibers were shot from the relatively small .223 right up to mighty powerhouses like 7mm PRC and .338 Lapua Magnum.
Quite a few more members now hold 1 mile bragging rights – spot on!
Superb day and we’ll be booking this range again in the future.
